About Me

How I can Help

Anxiety and depression have a way of taking over - I help people reboot their lives with evidence-based, data driven therapies that allow them to reclaim their joy, get unstuck, and meaningfully move forward. I can help you identify your thoughts and feelings, address fears and make good choices, improve moods and relationships, and enjoy life.

We will start with strengths and go from there. I use evidence-based practices, including Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Behavioral, Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral, and Dialectical Behavioral therapies, meaning that research has already shown that these techniques work. I have also provided counseling to couples and to those struggling to adjust to life changes or with symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, depression, mood disorder, behavior issues, attachment concerns, and autism spectrum disorder. I also use play and art therapies.

I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and eating disorders. The National Board of Certified Counselors appointed me as a subject matter expert and I hold a national board-certification in telemental health. I am a Child Mental Health Specialist and a Developmental Disabilities Mental Health Specialist and offer extensive knowledge of community resources. For caregivers, I can offer suggestions regarding how to parent effectively when your child is in distress.

Published Co-Author

Together with my colleagues Erik Schlocker and Andrew Gehl, I co-authored a chapter on the impacts of substance use on adolescent nutrition. The book is now available on Amazon for rent or for purchase. Check out chapter 25 to see our contribution!

About the book:

This comprehensive text offers a multidisciplinary perspective on aspects of adolescent nutrition. Using clinical cases, it covers relevant topics related to adolescent health including normal development, chronic health conditions, and complex biopsychosocial dynamics, among others.

  • The first section of the text contains an overview of adolescent nutrition that is further broken down into more specific topics such as developmental nutrition needs, needs of active youth and athletes and media influences on body image.
  • The next section focuses on health disparities such as culturally appropriate care, health equity, international considerations and food insecurity.
  • The following section specifically addresses eating disorders ranging from anorexia and bulimia to binge eating.
  • Finally, the last section covers additional health considerations such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, teen pregnancy, substance use and gender non-conforming youth.

FEATURED: I co-authored a research article published in Clinical Child Psychology and Psychiatry titled "Bridging the Gap: Impact of dedicated post-discharge services on readmission rates and emergency department visits for psychiatrically hospitalized youth" about my work on a local study providing therapy and care coordination to reduce repeat psychiatric hospitalizations and emergency department visits for children and adolescents..
